For years I've been saying I'm going to use a glass backsplash with wallpaper behind it in my kitchen.
In my vision it's between the bench top and overhead cupboards, but the way they've done it in this kitchen works well too I think. They've wallpapered a whole wall above the bench top and used glass as the backsplash over the bottom third or so.
An interesting result!
What do you think?
Would you do it?

Who Loves Letters In Their Life? Get A Load Of These....
I do indeed have a great love for typography and all manner of letters and numbers on display.
Something about them is strangely attractive for me.
I found these interesting images over on Fresh Home amongst 24 other photos with great ideas showcasing ways to use numbers and letters in your home.
That last one above is my favourite by far.... I think it reminds me of the print from one of my favourite books when I was younger.
I want that wallpaper in a room with 100s of beautiful books, a lazy lounge with gorgeous cushions all over it, plus a lush, soft rug on the floor to sink my feet into.
Ooh, and some lovely lamps to provide mellow pools of light while I read my books with tea and chocolate close by.
Just sayin'!

A New Blog For You To Check Out... Style Illuminated!
Kate over at Lamps Plus sent me an email about their newly re-named and re-styled blog a few days ago, and when I checked it out I was impressed!
The blog's new name is Style Illuminated, and it has some great articles, different contributors, and lots of great pics and photos about a range of ideas to do with interiors and design.
There was info on different trends, fabric swatches, a post on 'Mad Men' style, interviews with top designers, tips for a great Fall picnic, lists of top accessories, some great Missoni pics (sigh), and even a post on 'The Power Of Plaid'.... and that was all on the front page as I scrolled down!
As it's Fall across the pond in America (Spring over here!), there were also quite a few articles on Fall looks and styles, so I've picked a few pics to share with you. Pop on over to Style Illuminated for lots more pics and great looks!
All the pics above are from an article entitled 'Tablescape Inspiration Ideas For A Fall Dinner Party'.
The gorgeous arrangements above (gawd I LOVE Fall colours - they're everywhere in my home all year 'round - that's my colour palette, right there....) are from an article about flower and fruit arrangements for Fall.
And below, are some more pics from various articles showing how to make a home cozy, how to use candlelight effectively, and one featuring marbled wallpaper in Fall colours!
For lots more inspiration, check out the Style Illuminated blog here.

P.S. Here's a pic from their newest post (just noticed it today) about budget decorating! This room really has a lived in, eclectic, cozy vibe to me, even though there's lots of white in it.
And another... how gorgeous are the colours in this one?!
Now.... I beseech you all to.....

Fearless Fantasy Friday - Watercolour Wallpaper...
I've been finding some wonderful pics of wallpaper to add to my Pinterest collection, and this is my new favourite!
It comes from Black Crow Studios (watch out for the loud music if you click on the link), and features a design based on watercolour paints.
Isn't it glorious?
It would certainly turn heads in any house I think.
Happy Friday everyone, I hope you all have a super weekend.
Now, go forth and decorate!

Fearless Fantasy Friday - It's The Wallpaper Again...
This fascination I have with wallpaper on the ceiling is becoming quite 'full on' - lol.
Whilst lots of the wallpaper I see in images where it's on the ceiling is a little overwhelming or overdone... I really do think there's a place for elegant and tastefully chosen wallpaper above our heads!
The picture below grabbed my attention during a google search, and then the whole apartment of Jenna Lyons became a curiosity I wanted to explore.
I think Jenna is one lady who doesn't listen to the 'don't do it gremlins' and is a fearless decorator!
Happy 'Fearless Fantasy Friday' everyone!

Fearless Fantasy Friday...
I found this short and truthful quote the other day whilst browsing one of my favourite blogs Belle Maison...
“Most people start out wanting to go for their fantasy, but end up painting their walls dove-white.”
- Raymond Boozer
I so loved it, that it's inspired me to start a new regular (or semi-regular) post entitled 'Fearless Fantasy Fridays'.
These posts will be to feature rooms where people haven't 'chickened out' and resorted to playing it safe at the last moment.
'Feel the fear and do it anyway' is my motto (and also the name of a great book by Susan Jeffers for those who like motivational reading).
You only live once.... and at the very least could try ramping up your wall colour. An adventure into bold walls only needs a new can of paint or some new wallpaper if it goes wrong!
Not the end of the world.
And, if you felt like taking a risk with the furniture, who could resist gorgeous purple chairs and an oversized purple lamp?
Viva la fantasy!

Come Dine With Me - No. 16 - Gorgeous Florals!
What a gorgeous, girly, pretty feel this room has. Lovely soft colours and sweet floral wallpaper.
Dining in this light filled room would be a pleasure.
And, as always, as a part of this series.....
Ask yourself: 'Do I savour the ritual of eating with my family/friends whenever I can?'
Which leads to: 'When, or how, can I include this precious time together more?'
Because: There's something so primitively delightful and bonding about the 'breaking of bread' (so to speak) with our loved ones. It's a ritual and a tradition that's been crowded out and lost amongst television, technology, and texting! It's time to 'get together' and connect the old fashioned way again.

I Am SO Going To Do This....
Finding images like this one reminds me why putting wallpaper on a ceiling is on my list of things to do (decor wise) before I die.
It's been on there for a few years now. The little unit where I currently live probably isn't particularly suited to it, although I often dream of putting it in the toilet or somewhere really unexpected. Ha!
A room like this one though...... sigh.
I'm pretty darn sure everyone in the conservative city where I live would think I'd gone slightly nutty and do a rather rapid double take upon entering a room featuring it.
I'm also pretty darn sure they'd only have to look at it for a few moments to quietly admit it's amazing! (And, if they didn't - who cares!!!!!)
What do you think?
Would you do it?

A Scrumptious Birthday High Tea At A Famous Royal Hotel In Ballarat!
Last weekend it was the birthday of one of my closest friends, so four of us went out to celebrate with a delicious and very special 'High Tea' at Ballarat's renowned 'The Craig's Royal Hotel'.
Here we all are! We were feeling pretty happy with ourselves..... good friends, fine food, a glorious atmosphere.
Such a treat.
That's the birthday girl over there on the right (woohoo!), and I'm the one with the dark hair.
And, here's the 'Princess Room' where we had our 'high tea'.... gorgeous. So grand and detailed. The ceiling was magnificent. And, the wallpaper.....let's just say, my obsession with gorgeous wallpaper (like the type you'll find at my beloved Thibaut in America), was well and truly fired up. More on that later.
After the absolutely scrumptious delicacies of the 'high tea', we then got to go on a guided tour around parts of the hotel thanks to the Managing Director Mr. John Finning.
Here's the 'Grand Dining Room'. The mirrors were absolutely stunning. Huge! The tapestries were also huge and beautiful.
Now, on to some other interesting snippets.
This staircase enarmoured me because of what I could see at the very top. Can you see it up there?
Here it is close up.
That, my friends, is a ceiling decorated with wallpaper.
Be still my beating heart.
There were quite a few of those (excitement plus!) as we walked around, but this is my best shot due to the light.
We wandered down lushly carpeted hallways with more gorgeous wallpaper. I asked John about its origins, and he informed me they had to import it all from America. Uh-huh, just as I'd guessed. Those Americans sure are handy in the wallpaper department.
We got to peek into some of the rich and comfortable rooms, each with its own version of the most magnificent bed you've ever seen!
These rooms have been host to some very illustrious guests over the years since 1853. Ballarat was once Australias premier city due to its location right smack bang in the middle of the Goldfields during the Goldrush Era. Thus it attracted eminent visitors who chose to stay at The Craig's Royal Hotel.
Guests have included Mark Twain, the Duke and Duchess of York (later to become King George V and Queen Mary), the Duke of Windsor, Sir Robert Menzies (one of Australias most well known Prime-ministers), Sir Donald Bradman (our most famous cricketer), HRH Prince Alfred Duke of Edinburgh, HRH Prince Edward Duke of Wales, and General Lord Horatio Kitchener, to name a few.
More gorgeous wallpaper in this bedroom above! And, through the door over there at the end, across the hallway of the suite, there was a room with this in it.......
Aaahhh, I'll have one of those with champagne, chocolates, soft music, warm bubbly water, and a good book thanks!
As we oohed and aahed our way around long quiet hallways, up and down beautiful staircases, and even in one of those old lifts with the sliding retractable grids across the front, there were also glimpses of glorious windows like this one...
I adore stained glass windows. Original beauties like this one with such marvellous colour and detail are such a rare treat.
We also had a quick sneak peek at the converted wine cellar, the bar, and the restaurant area. You can see the bistro below. I've had a meal at that bistro, and the food was nothing short of 5 star... absolutely melt in your mouth.
So, I hope you enjoyed this little blog tour of one of Ballarat's best known historical buildings! These photos only represent a very small portion of the building and its beautiful rooms. The Craig's Royal Hotel has been a labour of love (and much hard work) for its owners, who bought it in 1999, and have been restoring it to its former glory with meticulous care and detail ever since.
I'd like to thank Managing Director Mr. John Finning for his wonderful hospitality, fabulous tour, and kind permission to take and publish these photos!
If you're ever in Ballarat, a stay at 'Craigs' would be something to remember. And, if you live in Ballarat, you should try the 'high tea'! Yummy. Not to mention a 3 course meal in the bistro... superb.
One of my lovely friends up there was saying she thinks her husband should be spoiling her with a stay in a different suite of rooms for their wedding anniversary every year from now on.
Excellent idea I thought!
Linda. xox
