Come Dine With Me - No. 13 - A Splash Of Orange For Zest!

Love the pops of orange in this dining room... and the fab vintage/retro look furniture.

And, as always, as a part of our 'Come Dine With Me' series.....

Ask yourself: 'Do I savour the ritual of eating with my family whenever I can?'

Which leads to: ' When, or how, can I include this precious time together more?'

Because: There's something so primitively delightful and bonding about the 'breaking of bread' (so to speak) with our loved ones. It's a ritual and a tradition that's been crowded out and lost amongst television, technology, and texting! It's time to 'get together' and connect the old fashioned way again.

  1. So true. When we are sitting down as a family at the dinner table my son tells us things about school that otherwise we wouldn't know. I am starting to like orange. Charmaine

  2. zing - i'm partial to a bit of orange :)

and the arums are all in season here, i have a huge vase full on the bench this week.

that dining suit would be a collectors item - is it possibly of scandinavian design fame i wonder ????

hate visiting here - i am trying to finally choose some colours for our loungeroom - it's certainly not getting a narrowed down colour !

P.S. we have started story book making - kids are loving it :)

  3. I think orange takes a while to grow on you sometimes Charmaine, and then it's kinda like, wow, I love that colour, it's so bright and cheery!!

Lee, hehehe, torture by colour! The dining suite is gorgeous isn't it! Those clean, smooth lines certainly look Scandinavian, but I don't know where it's from.

And, yaaayyyyy for the story book making!!! Great stuff. :) It's one of the kid's fave activities at school when they get free time. Even the little Preps love to make books with all manner of invented writing and funny pictures in them. It can become a bit of an addiction!

P.S I'm thinking about writing an E-book with all my reading tips and pages of reading activity ideas and some activity sheets to go with them. What do you think? Would people find that helpful? I'd just pop it on the Main Menu at the top of the site as a free downloadable. Something else for the Christmas holidays as well as the 8 week e-course I'm in the midst of writing.

  4. I think you should write that e-book. You know I would promote it.

I love this dining room! The color on the wall is very similar to the one I have in my own living room and I always wanted to add a touch of orange. I went with a couple of cushion covers (of course!!) but it's not enough yet. I can't add vases or other things like that because my cats are not well beahved like jessie, they are little furry terrorists. Vases would lasts five seconds. Everything I put around they think it is something for them to play with.
However, orange is a wonderful color. It's warm, relaxing but cheerful at the same time. And you can match it with a huge variety of other colors, it's really versatile, and for someone who gets easily bored like me and look for things that can change constanly is a perfect color. I didn't pain the walls orange because I have brown/reddish floors in the whole house and it would have been too much. I needed something that could cool down and light up: so I painted half the room yellow and the other half light blue. Oh. you'll see, I'll post pictures when I'll be able to remove all the things I making for the shop for all around the house. Right now it looks like a command of crafters invaded my place. It's just me. I invaded myself.
TIme for coffee now, have a great day Linda!

  5. I love the colour scheme here ... when orange works, it really works. I've actually been wanting to incorporate some into my wardrobe for that very reason.

My husband and I tend to rush through our meals because we're always so busy with other things ... you remind me that we really need to slow down, focus, and pay more attention to the enjoyment of a shared meal.

  6. I love this space! I've never really been too fond of orange, but I LOOOOVE it when it's combined with aqua or turquoise!

  7. My living room colors are orange and blue. I think when you add orange to a room it immediately feels like there is a little bit of a zest. :)

  8. It's so strange, I actually used to hate the colour orange but recently have been loving it!
