A Home Library's Educational Edge...

I found this interesting snippet of info whilst rumbling around online the other day...

After examining statistics from 27 nations, a group of researchers found the presence of book-lined shelves in the home — and the intellectual environment those volumes reflect — gives children an enormous advantage in school.

“Home library size has a very substantial effect on educational attainment, even adjusting for parents’ education, father’s occupational status and other family background characteristics,” reports the study, recently published in the journal Research in Social Stratification and Mobility. “Growing up in a home with 500 books would propel a child 3.2 years further in education, on average, than would growing up in a similar home with few or no books.

“This is a large effect, both absolutely and in comparison with other influences on education,” adds the research team, led by University of Nevada sociologist M.D.R. Evans. “A child from a family rich in books is 19 percentage points more likely to complete university than a comparable child growing up without a home library.”

Ask yourself: 'Do I have books around my home for my family to see and share?'

Which leads to: 'If not............... WHY NOT!!!' (Yes, I'm shouting.)

Because: Not only do books bring a personality and vibe to a home that nothing else can offer (in my opinion), their value to your children is priceless.

A Wonderful Quote About Some Of My Best Friends

  1. I had no doubt. If you have a lot of books arond the house when you're a child and you see the adults reading them, curiosity is impossible to avoid and you will want to read those books too. That's what's happend to me. The brain gets trained and school is not that difficult when you are a reader.

  2. We have heaps of books but we've been really digging the public library more recently. The boy's really love it, as do I. That feller made from books is so cool. xo

  3. Yep, me too Bobbi! Always stacks of books around. The library is such a great place to Nerine. I LOVE the feller made from books too.... I had him filed away for ages waiting for some sort of post idea to use him for!!!!!

I'm very grateful for your participation.

Until next time may your home be full of lots of love, laughter, and life!
